The grassroots grounds of Melbourne's industrial west

Saturdays are for football. With the lockdown recently lifted, but football yet to get back underway, a sunny afternoon wasn't going to go to waste.

Below are a selection of shots from Altona East, Altona Magic and Yarraville Glory; all situated in Melbourne's western suburbs.

Water side suburbs have often been places of settlement for European migrants, and this area is no different with these clubs having Greek, Eastern European, Scottish and Maltese heritage amongst them.

The proximity to the River Yarra is an ideal location for oil refineries and manufacturing, amongst other industries, lending a unique backdrop to these grounds.
